Sarah, thanks for that.

Isn't it a bit strange that the useSystemDate is a temporary local (to 
each handler) property? Surely, most of the time, people will want to 
use whatever date format they've set their computer to use...and would 
want  their apps to use whatever their customers have set their 
computers to use. Shouldn't the date format just be set in the 
preferences and then forgotten?
