Aligning Baselines of Different Objects

Does not work...

Aligning tops does not work.

Aligning bottoms does not work.

Aligning the vertical centers ('item 2 of the loc') does not work, 
either.

When it does, it's just a coincidence, due to the field and the button 
being at a very specific point size - that just happens to work with 
the top/bottom/center at that size.

How can we come up with a way that will work for any point size 
between, say, 7 and 48 points?

Can anyone help?
