Dear Dan:

I use this:

on openStack
set the textFont of this stack to Verdana,"utf8"
put uniencode (url "file:text.txt","utf8") into fld "text"
end openStack

Of course, you should choose the font you like and the particular 
encoding you need.  This really should work, but let me know if it 
doesn't.
