Why nervous?
It's a rich and robust format capable of storing text, images, and other
data types that's very efficient and reasonably compact.
The alternative would be a folder with hundreds of tiny files sewn together
with a bloated XML file ("this" is much short than "<item>this</item>").
Don't get me wrong: XML is of course useful for exchanging data between
applications, and with Rev's XML library you can do the same for apps you
write with it. But IMNSHO XML is approaching overuse as a native file
format in many applications.
Given that everything from word processors to QuickTime have been using
binary formats for decades, what's there to be "nervous" about?
