Definition: Acronym for Portable Document Format, the PDF file format

by Adobe Systems, Inc. uses the PostScript printer description language

highly portable across computer platforms.

Nevertheless, there are some huge differences between PDF and PS
(like the use of dictionnaries AFAIR).
