players & TIFF files

That's true, but only on top of QuickTime...

Definitively not, sorry...

You'll have to stick to JPG or GIF or PNG in that case.
...or BMP on win and PICT on Mac...

Maybe someone will write an external for that task, but no way with the 
build-in tools
(at least in the moment of this writing ;-).
