Conway's Game of Life

I have an 8th grader I mentored who just won the State Science Fair
writing "Variations in Conway's Game of Life"- had to write it in
QuickBasic. I want him to get up and running quickly in Revolution.
Figured it would be easier to start with something he knows.

As to re-inventing the wheel: it's sometimes easier to teach from an
existing project and improve it rather than doing it all from scratch.
For example, if the 'gridwork' already exists in the Game of Life. I'd
rather have students looking at variations or modifying the GUI rather
than building from scratch...it's quicker and the students are working
on the parts that are the most visually rewarding.

Just my approach,
Ro
