newbie question- vanishing act

I downloaded Revolution and just started the tutorial- (system  Red hat 7.2 
128 mb ram)  and when I open a the color palette the windows opens and then 
vanishes. I had the same problem with the properties window until I made it 
sticky.  Colors palette- won't even allow me to click on it to make it stick 
to the desktop.

Any ideas what I am missing ( I hope I didn't miss this in the morning class- 
sleepyzzzzzzzz :-)
