Compiling externals?

I downloaded the MacOS distribution, but I'm unable to compile the XCMD
for the Externals Tutorial.  The problem seems to be that the file
"MCexternalPreCompPPC.pch" is missing.  I don't have the carbonized MSL C
Library, so compiling for carbon isn't an option.  What do I do?
