Compacting stacks and todays' newbie question

Hi Michael,

You are correct.  In HyperCard, only a portion of a stack (the 
current card?) is loaded in RAM at any one time...thus the constant 
updating to disk & the need to occasionally "compact" (basically 
write a fresh, non-fragmented copy of) a stack.  The MetaCard engine 
loads the entire stack in RAM when it is opened, and writes a fresh 
copy out when it is saved; thus compacting is not required.
