I get it.

I was picturing each cgi "script" being a standalone application 
(reading and writing stdin and stdout), a method involving running 
1.6M apps and not very efficient.

(Now the idea of a making scripting standalones can be applied to 
many areas, not just cgi, and that interests me.)
