Evaluating Valentina in Rev

Jeanne, thanks for reposting this info (I did eventually find it, in a
footnote to a post from Tuvia about something else). You've helpfully drawn
attention to one of the things that messed me up when I tried using it,
namely that the path to the database is in platform-native format (if you
put the path in Rev/Unix style - or just get it wrong - you don't get an
error message, but just an empty result).

It's perhaps worth passing on one of the other things that held me up when
initially experimenting through the Database Manager; this offers a default
query of "select * from super;". Trying to edit this to get access to a
simple db I'd created using the Valentina app downloaded from the web site,
I was multiply frustrated by 'no such table'. Eventually I found that the
semicolon needs to be removed altogether. (With FileMaker Pro, the
semicolon is acceptable - although optional - but must be prefixed by a
space. It might be best for Tuvia to remove it altogether from the default
string in future.)

I also noted that the current (MacOS Classic) distribution includes two
apparently identical 1.3MB files "Valentina Engine" (one at the top level,
one in components/engines). However, after some stage in usage, the one at
top-level has disappeared. However more, it seemed to me at least that if
you take a fresh unpack of the distribution, and trash the top level one,
you will then crash horribly on any attempt to access Valentina through
revdb. Can someone explain what's happening, or am I suffering
hallucinations?

Also, what's the situation with regard to a standalone using the Valentina
bits. If I make my stack use Valentina through RevDB, and build a
standalone for Mac and Windows, checking the "Database" resource option in
the Distribution Builder, will this just work? Or do I need to package some
extra bits, and if so what and where?

All additional info gratefully received.
