Background Objects?

This is probably earth-shatteringly naive, but:

Why have I never come across background objects (and even
been anaware that they can exist in RR/MC) since I stopped
HyperCarding (about 7 years ago)?

Is there an unsuspected benefit to using background images
(i.e. can they be spread across a set of cards a la HC)?

What a slow learner!
