I don't suppose there is a way to customize the appearance of popup menus?

I changed the look of the hidden popup menu btn, and when you click 
on some other button the script is:

popup btn someBtn

The resulting menu is the drab greytone.  First choice would be to 
customize it graphically.  Second choice would be to customize the 
colors.  All attempts at both have failed.

Is it even possible?
