Filling without the bucket

Is there any way to script the filling of a region of a graphic without
calling up the bucket tool or showing the bucket tool icon?

I have a graphic -- 3 linked circles. I want to fill in certain regions of
the circle by script. So far, the best I can do is to call up the bucket
tool and click at a point. I consider that to be distracting.

Any help would be appreciated.
