Sorry, I meant pan... this isn't what I mean.  To see what I am 
referring to, try zooming in on a vr, then click the "drag zoomed 
object" button on the movie controller (the 4 way arrow icon), then 
drag the VR....

Thanks - alwaysbuffer works fine for my purposes!
