md5digest

The md5digest function sounds intriguing, but after reading up on md5 oin
the Web it seems to be half of a solution:  it provides authentication but
no encyption.

Given this, I'm at a loss to think of practical uses of it in MC until
encryption becomes available.

Are any of you using md5digest, and if so what are you doing with it?
