Compressing stacks - is it possible?

What I've done with the educational gradebook program I'm working on is to
use MetaCard stacks as 'templates'. I've written scripts which pull all
user data out when they quit and write it to a compressed text file. When
the user returns to work I decompress the text file and load it back into a
duplicate of the template.
